By Jeremy Adamson (Soft cover, 269 pages) This book is beautifully illustrated and will entertain as you venture into the life of this living legend, Sam Maloof. Awe-inspiring with his timeless designs and humble beginnings as a craftsman, the book is also a fascinating chronicle of his life.
I especially enjoyed Chapter One: Background “…when Anisse (hismother) missed a kitchen knife or a pair of shears, she invariably found him (Sam) using them as tools with which to carve or fashion a wide variety of childhood toys—swords, guns, and wheeled vehicles. Many were unusually intricate for a child craftsman: the cylinder of a wooden pistol actually rotated, and the front axle of a truck was attached to handmade metal springs…other children often brought broken toys to him to be fixed: he had an unusual ability to make them right again.”
