HP-1 Precision 12° Low Angle Block Plane
The Plane Iron - The precision ground, A-2 tool steel plane iron of the HP-1 is cryogenically tempered and will keep a razor-sharp edge much longer than traditional tool steels. After tempering, the back is lapped. The primary/secondary bevels for the HP-1 are 20°/25°.
The Sole - From a solid blank of stainless steel, the interior bosses are precisely CNC milled. The adjustable throat allows you to tailor the shaving and finish to your needs. The front and rear of the plane is capped with a milled and anodized aluminum.
The Sides - The brass sides are precision milled and joined to the sole with an interlocking double dovetail joint. After assembly, the sides are ground square to the sole so the planes can be used to "shoot" and edge.
The Blade Adjustment Mechanism - Hidden within the body is a stainless steel, 40 TPI lead screw blade adjustment mechanism. With one-quarter turn of the adjustment knob, you advance the cutting edge 0.0013". Lateral cutting edge adjustments are achieved by manually canting the undersized blade either left or right.
The Iron Cap/Handle - Investment cast from silicon brass, the curvature of the handle allows hands of all sizes to comfortably use this plane. The locking wheel secures the blade to the body of the tool. The portion of the cap in contact with the blade is milled, insuring a light-tight seam that eliminates chatter and keeps the cutting edge rigid.
Uses - The HP-1 is 6-1/2" in length, approximately 1-1/2" in width, and the cutting edge is approximately 1-1/4". Overall height is just over 2". The HP-1 Precision 12° Low Angle Block Plane is the perfect tool for planing hardwoods and is the only plane that can effectively cut end grain
